The Summer Storm
Dansk:
English:
The storm was named Hans and it was a storm that visited Denmark on a summer day when there is usually no storm. It was on 8 August 2023 and it lasted for two days with strong gusts of wind. There were leaves on the trees, so the wind had a larger surface to grab onto the trees and thus there was a greater risk that they would fall down. So we were extra alert, and we were ready at any moment to take the rabbits to safety. The night between the two days when it was the worst, we took the rabbits into the conservatory to take extra care of them. Molly and Sandy enjoyed being able to rest their ears. They immediately went to sleep. Now they could finally rest a bit because they no longer had to be on guard non-stop.
Wind were 25 m/s and there was heavy rain at the same time as the wind gradually picked up. A mixture of rain and wind was certainly not pleasant for the rabbits. It took a lot of energy to be so active all the time. The rabbits made themselves comfortable on the many blankets that had been laid out on the floor, and while the rain was pounding on the roof and the wind was ripping the leaves outside, the two bunnies lay inside the hutch and sheltered from the rain and wind and slept soundly. They even dreamed.
Occasionally, during the series of hours that we spent together, all four of us, the rabbits were offered some water, with the water bowl stuck right up their snouts, because they apparently wouldn't move for it themselves, but if it was right in front of them, then it was more tempting. It was around 13 degrees Celsius during the night, so it wasn't nearly as cold as it has sometimes been during storms, but since it was summer, the temperature is of course a bit higher than if it had been autumn or winter, which it is when we usually experience storms.
The rabbits also got snacks when they visited the conservatory. They were given both herbal mix consisting of mixed dried herbs as well as profiber which is 100% fibre pellets, which the rabbits can eat unlimited amounts of, unlike other snacks and treats. There was also plenty of hay available if they preferred it.
Molly was sleeping safe and well. She fell into the deepest sleep. She dreamed several dreams. It looked like she was enjoying her dream. Did she dream of running in a flower meadow? Sandy also dreamed a few times during the time we spent in the conservatory.
Something else that Sandy was busy with was getting her domestic stuffed animals washed and licked clean and nice. She makes a big deal out of looking after them. She makes sure her plush friends have a good time. However, the rabbits prioritize washing each other, but once in a while their teddies also get a bath. Molly was particularly curious and adventurous, where she looked around a lot out of curiosity several times, and she usually doesn't do that much when she's in the conservatory. Sandy is usually the one who is more adventurous but Molly, on the other hand, can quickly settle down in new surroundings and relax. We spent a total of approx. 16 hours inside the conservatory and many of these hours the rabbits slept. They really got some rest, which was great to see. When the wind started to die down we put the rabbits back into their home. The storm was decreasing, and the rabbits could now find peace outside in the run again and they were safe. It was very nice to have the rabbits inside and especially for such a long time that there was time to relax. Both rabbits settled in quickly to the new surroundings (they had been in there before, but they just don't usually come there that often). It is good to see that they can relax so much even though there are many things happening around them. They are probably both used to being placed in new and different surroundings.
